New Years Resolutions I Will Not Keep

I have spent most of the morning attempting to think of some profound thing to say to end the year. Something deep and meaningful.... so I looked back at the blog entries from the year... all 81 of them.

I wondered if I should make some New Years Resolutions that I won't keep. I know I won't. I have no intention of keeping them. But, I can at least state some things I would definitely LIKE to do... and some things that I am definitely interested in starting.

1. Blog more often. 81 entries (wait...this makes 82) ends up averaging not even 2 a week. Downright shameful.

2. Take more photos. I have a great camera that I need to use. I thought about attempting to take a photo a day for an entire year, but I'm pretty sure I would fail... so I'll just say I'd LIKE to do it, but have no intention of following through.

3. Do my devotions every. single. day. I started the spring of 2009 very intentional... spending quality time with God every single day. But, for some reason as the year continues, so does my intention.

4. Spend more time playing and less time working. My parents, and Shawn's parents are aging. I know that we all tend to get older each day. But, suddenly, this year with all the health concerns our parents have faced, I've become keenly aware of our temporal time here on earth. I spend way too much time working.... and not enough time playing with our kids, our friends, my husband.

5. Enjoy and appreciate the seasons. I don't think I've ever said a nice word about winter. Really. Ever since I moved to the Midwest a million years ago when I was a kid, I'm pretty sure I have only shared words of disdain for this season. I am going to try to enjoy every season. I said TRY.

6. Unplug. This is a hard one for me. I am a Blackberry Addict. I feel at times that I should attend a 12 step program where I have to say "Hi, my name is Tina and I'm a Blackberry-aholic" and then have people clap for me because I had the strength to admit it as we sit around in a circle and discuss the small miracle of the times we heard the beep in the middle of a conversation with our friend and we didn't immediately check our email. In 2010, I have to unplug more.

7. Take a vacation. We are not good at being purposeful about finding vacation time to spend with our family. The budget, time, work, school, events, our calendar, life... just seems to get in the way. The first thing I want to do as we plan our new year is mark out some days to vacation. On purpose.

8. Gain weight. This one is reverse-psychology here. I said these are New Years Resolutions I will not keep and I just simply must NOT do this.

2010 is going to be a good year. I know it. I can tell already... life is changing and getting more and more interesting and exciting each day. Change is Good.

Happy New Year!
