prayers for Uganda

I had lunch with a friend today who is getting ready to go to Uganda, Africa for her fourth time. She asked for prayers for her trip.

I am amazed by what God is doing in her life.

Mother of two girls, and divorced only a year or two, my friend has felt a call on her life to minister to those beautiful people in Uganda. She started by going on a missions trip to Uganda by "accident" the first time. She had an incredible experience, and tells of the love of the people on the island she ministers. The first time she went, the entire island of people met her there, and greeted her with their chanting, dozens of children pulling on her fingers and saying hello to her..

She has ministered to sick and dying, as 80 to 90 percent of the people on the island are either infected with HIV or have full blown AIDS. She has spent her summers for the past four years, sometimes a month at a time, teaching the people on the island English, knitting, sewing, basic health care, and such.

She tells stories of men and women delivered from the hands of witchcraft and voodoo... of the freedom in Christ known by the people upon hearing the Gospel.

She shared with me today her dream to build and orphanage on the island. She learned a few years ago that she can buy a plot of land there for $22. She is pretty sure a mere $10,000 will complete her project of building an orphanage. She has met with various ministry groups and missionaries and shared her dream...

Her dreams made me somber. We in America are so blessed and so spoiled. We have so much and give so little. We are blessed so incredibly and appreciate so minimally. The "extra" stuff we have is enough to build a dozen or so orphanages.

I'm proud of you Sandy. You are the hands and feet of Christ. God Bless your work in Uganda and may the Lord provide for you as you venture into what He has called you to do.

Godspeed.

Great post. Reminds me of what I experienced in Kenya. Going to a place like that sure is an eye-opener, since a little of our money could make such a big difference.
