This morning as I was driving after taking the kids to school
Look closely or you may miss it
It begins at the top, ever so slightly, beginning to fade
At first glance, things appear stable
But I am watchful.
I know that soon the metamorphosis will occur
There will come a time when it will seem
to have been overnight to the incognizant
But, I will know that it began much sooner
slowly, little by little, branch by branch
And they will fall to the ground and scatter.
these first signs cause me to be a bit apprehensive
I've been here before
I know what is looming,
I am not yet prepared.
