taxes

March 12 : I have officially got 34 days to get my taxes done. For me, it's as simple as gathering all the "stuff" and hauling it to the accountant. How lame is that! I don't actually even have to DO them myself!

Every year, I have great intentions of getting it all together and depositing it to the accountant no later than February 1st. every. single. year.

It never happens. Why??? Here are my reasons:

1. I secretly am afraid that I might OWE and I don't want to know about it quite yet.
2. I'm busy.
3. I'm absent minded
4. I fall into the bad habits of "do the urgent first" and ignore the rest of the papers on my desk.
5. The kindergarten papers are burying my taxes
6. I don't want to do it!

So, my goal this week is (guess?)...

Ugh. All of the above except #1. I KNOW I owe. Last year we filed late. It's so silly because I stress about it and think about it and all I have to do is get the papers together and drop them at the accountant but, like you I have a mental block.

This is me. I have been avoiding them and not facing the fact that I might owe. (I really don't think so and I have some $$ tucked away just in case, but I just don't want to deal with reality.) Good for you for avoiding them, too and making me feel better about myself.

chicken little

We had an interesting visitor the other night. We were sitting on our back deck eating dinner and we noticed that one of the neighbors' young chickens were headed our direction. We live in an area where the lots are about 1.5 or 2 acres each, and the neighbors always raise about 8 or 9 chickens each year. They wander past their borders every now and then, and we don't really mind because it gives us something to talk about and look at (and apparently blog about). This particular chicken wandered quite a way from it's borders and into our yard, over to the decks and was walking around down under the decks. Shawn went down the steps and decided to see how friendly the little gal was. He went up to it and tried to touch it and it came up to him and let him pet it. I know... who pets a chicken? The next thing you know, he tried to pick it up. I figured for sure the thing was going to squawk and run off...but to my surprise, it let him pick it up. He sat with it for a while, hi
